06.15.11: Daxko
The Daxko Office Fitout is an
office project constructed for Daxko, a local technology company,
located in the five (5) story, approximately 125,000 sf University
Park Plaza building in Homewood, AL. The project for this office
tenant consists of 30,795 square feet of modern office fitout over
two (2) floors with many unique construction characteristics that
complement the innovative business model of the tenant. Murray
Building Company was engaged by Daniel Corporation, the building’s
manager and owner, to build the project for the tenant, which
involved conventional commercial construction with steel framing and
drywall. The project consisted of many open collaborative work
areas, themed conference rooms constructed of full height glass
walls, exposed ductwork and ceiling structure, and a kitchen/dining
area. The focal point of the project was a new monumental steel
staircase retrofitted into the building to span two floors and serve
as the connector between the private workspace on the 4th floor and
the 5th floor public entrance to the Daxko office.
On this project, many
opportunities to participate based on merit were offered to the
construction community. In order to ensure the project was delivered
to the owner within budget, the project was divided into thoroughly
scoped trade packages and bid to three or more
subcontractors/vendors for each category. Given the nature of some
of the trade packages, Murray Building Company was able to offer
some smaller and/or newer subcontractors unique opportunities to
prove themselves and show that the merit shop system is the most
successful way to build. Murray Building Company’s quality control
program was implemented with these subcontractors; helping train
them to understand the quality expected and position them for more
opportunities on other projects.
